Tommy The Tank is the big odds-on favourite for this having had the Paul Nicholls-trained horse Wicked Thoughts odds-on not long ago.
Tommy appeals much more having placed a close second behind Belliano last time out defying his 18/1 price on his second start over hurdles.
Belliano, also trained by Nicholls, has gone on to win again and prove his form having also gone close to the ultra promising The New Lion back in October.
As a big fan of The Office, Dwight K Schrute is very tempting, he also ran well on his sole point run in February 2023 winning by four lengths and it was a long wait to see him again to make his hurdle debut last month, 694 days and could have needed the run.
That said, he’ll need to run amongst the best of Clovis Du Berlais’s progeny to stand a chance.
May be carrying top-weight but this seven-year-old has been going the right way this season and runs off the same mark he was just last week when making clear progress placing second behind Faitque de L’Isle.
That horse was carrying 2 stone 2lb less so had a huge advantage over the course of 3m and also had a 5lb claimer on board.
Those two finished well ahead of the rest of the field but now Simple Getaway can get off the mark.
Gone well since being upped to and around 3m with a third place, win and a second place finish.
And he’s gone even better since switching to fences in December winning ahead of Wal Buck’s at 7/1 and confirming that ability when a respectable second behind Superbolt next time at Leicester.
Return to Wetherby and the same distance of an even 3m is another positive that should see him at least finish in the top 2.
There are a few odds-on at Wetherby today along with a couple at Hereford, tipped too.
So it would make sense to add to those singles at Hereford with one or two that really look certain to win to add to the double to make a treble/acca.
Wendigo is sure to win but at 1/8 it’s really not worth much given how horses like Constitution Hill are around the same price when they face a different level of opposition too.
There’s a huge chance for Live Conti though, who though is an incredibly short priced should go on well.
He won at Auteuil in October, shortly soon after went to Dan Skelton and has changed owners too to G Mason, J Hales, P Hogarth and Sir Alex Ferguson in the familiar colours.
He’s set to be a different level and just adds to the multiple nicely.
