After falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs appeared to be on their way to their first loss of the season.
However, the Chiefs managed to survive and pull out a 17-10 win on the road to improve to 4-0. Samaje Perine scored the go-ahead touchdown with 6:04 left in the fourth quarter.
Kansas City star tight end Travis Kelce returned to form with season-highs of seven catches for 89 yards to lead the team. He became the franchise’s all-time leader for career receptions in Sunday’s win, passing Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez.
The highlight of the day was provided by Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy, who reeled in a 54-yard touchdown pass from star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Worthy also made a game-clinching catch on third down late in the fourth quarter on his way to finishing with career highs of three receptions for 73 yards.
Kansas City lost wide receiver Rashee Rice after he was carted off the field with a knee injury, so Worthy will be a big part of the offense going forward.
Fans on social media praised the passing attack led by Kelce and Worthy as they celebrated Kansas City’s victory on Sunday:
In his first game against Mahomes since taking over as Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh did his best to make life difficult for the two-time NFL MVP. Still, the great ones find different ways to win, and Mahomes did just that.
The Chiefs will look to improve to 5-0 when they host the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 on Monday Night Football.
