A survey by the tourism analysis company Tourix finds notable changes in the preferences of Greek travelers in foreign destinations over the last three years (2022-2024).
The 6 main findings of the survey are:
London “dethrones” Rome after 2 years in the searches of Greek travelers as the TOP foreign destination.
Barcelona makes a dynamic entry into the Top-6
Dubai is constantly gaining ground in preferences
Istanbul’s momentum is stable
Vienna remains a stable value in 5th place
New York, despite the increase in search volume, failed to enter the top 10, remaining out of competition against popular European destinations
Stavros Kefalas, co-founder of Tourix, points out:
“Systematic monitoring of trends is now a strategic tool for travel agencies. It is important for agencies to promptly adapt their packages to emerging destinations, while at the same time renewing their proposals for the perennially popular destinations, in order to maintain their attractiveness to the Greek traveling public who wish to travel abroad.”
The Tourix research team emphasizes:
“While Rome maintained its lead in 2022 and 2023, London has steadily risen from 3rd place in 2022 to the top in 2024. At the same time, stability is observed in destinations such as Istanbul (4th place) and Vienna (5th place), while Barcelona shows remarkable momentum, rising from 9th place in 2022 to 6th in 2024. It is also worth noting the steady presence of Dubai in the Top-10, indicating the growing interest in destinations outside Europe.”
The research was carried out by analyzing online searches on Google, focusing on the preferences of Greek users for foreign destinations over the last three years (2022-2024). Using advanced trend analysis tools, Tourix’s Data & Business Analytics team processed the data to extract useful conclusions for the travel and tourism industry in Greece.
