RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) – Mark your calendars! Mississippi’s first Topgolf will be opening in December.
Construction at the Ridgeland site is in full swing for the highly anticipated development.
As of Wednesday, the building’s foundation, walls, and roof have gone up, along with the large poles that will hold the net surrounding the driving range.
According to officials on site, roughly 100 contract employees are working on the construction team each day to ensure it opens in late December of this year.
Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee says the anticipation for the attraction opening is helping the city bring in potential business, jobs, and residents.
“It’s a positive situation for the city to know that you have this kind of development coming. It makes people want to come here, to live here. And, of course, it’s great for our economy,” the mayor said. “Anytime you have a business of this type, it helps the economy keeps our quality of life high, allows us to keep our taxes low, it’ll generate a tremendous amount of sales tax over the years. And of course, the property itself has increased in value.”
The property is set to be constructed in separate phases, with the Topgolf facility being Phase 1. A new grocery store, retail section, and homes are in other phases.
Those phases are not yet under construction and it’s unclear when it will begin.
“I’m hearing a lot of people from around the state who want to come and enjoy the facility when it’s open,” Mayor McGee said.
