Gorey Rangers had a couple of near misses on the pitch, finishing as runners-up in the league and in the FAI Junior Cup, but they did have something to celebrate as Conor Casserly was named as the top Premier Division player, ahead of fellow nominees, North End United’s Alan Rhodes and Ryan Busher of Forth Celtic.
Matty Kavanagh (Courtown Hibs), Seán Cooney (Glynn Barntown) and Eryk Borowiec of New Ross Celtic were nominated for the Division 1 award, with the latter coming out on top after helping the Barrowsiders to a league and Neil O’Sullivan Cup double.
Stephen Reilly of champions Rathnure United was deemed to be the best performer in Division 2, while Craig O’Reilly (St. Joseph’s) and Billy Dunne (Killenagh Wanderers) also made the three-man shortlist.
Fastnet Rovers lost out in the race for the title, but Seán Kelly was feted for his performances for the Rathangan side with the Division 3 award. Seán Walsh of champions Ballymurn Celtic and Thomas Cloke (Camolin Celtic) were also nominated.
New Ross Town’s Cillian Thomas picked up the Division 3A gong, ahead of Damien Duke (Bunclody AFC) and Philip Walsh (Bree United).
The Division 4 award went to John Breen of Ferns United, while Caleb Byrne-Murphy (Gorey Rangers) and John Fitzgerald (St. Cormac’s) were also in the running.
In Division 4A, Kevin Price, captain of league runners-up and Gwyn Jones Cup winners Forth Celtic, was honoured. Liam Walsh (New Ross Celtic) and Jamie Warren (St. Joseph’s) were the other nominees.
Gorey Celtic’s John Lavery was rewarded for his role in helping his side to the title with the Division 5 prize, finishing ahead of Fionn Mulligan (All Blacks) and Ben Kelly (Fastnet Rovers).
The Under-19 award went to Dean Hillis of champions North End United, while Jamie Pepper from runners-up Shamrock Rovers and Joe Finn of Bunclody were also shortlisted.
The Youths Premier Division prize went to Brian Roban of double winners Castledockrell United. Rian Ormonde of Curracloe United and Callum Fowler (Wexford Albion) were the other nominees.
The talented Darragh Harris won the Youths Division 1 award, ahead of Rory Davis (Bridge Rovers) and Fionn Mulligan (All Blacks), after helping Shamrock Rovers to league success.
Caim United’s James McHugh was named as the top player in Youths Division 2, with Killian Plummer (Ferns United) and Codey Folliard (Camolin Celtic) also recognised for their achievements by being shortlisted.
Impressive Campile United player Tom Dempsey picked up the Youths Division 3 award, ahead of Lennon Foley (Duncannon) and Shane Cashe (Cushinstown).
The Youths Division 4 prize were to Darragh Gethings of champions Gorey Rangers. Kyle Connolly (North End United) and Danny Mallon (Wexford Albion) were the other nominees.
Meanwhile, the massive contribution that St. Leonards stalwart Seán Parker has made to Wexford football was recognized with the Pat Whitty Special Merit award.
The Wexford Football League AGM will take place on Monday, June 24, in The Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, at 8 p.m. sharp. All clubs are obliged to attend.
