Ohio State coach Jake Diebler speaks with reporters at Big Ten media day in Rosemont, Illinois, on Oct. 3, 2024.
Darryn Peterson, a top-three national prospect in the 2025 class and the top target on Ohio State’s recruiting board, has a commitment date.
According to a report from On3.com, Peterson will announce his college decision Nov. 1 and pick from his list of four finalists: Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio State and USC. He is the No. 1 combo guard, the No. 1 player in California and the No. 3 national prospect in his class according to the 247Sports.com rankings.

The 6-5, 195-pound combo guard grew up in Northeast Ohio and played his first two seasons of high school basketball at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, where he landed a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes before ever setting foot on campus. He was the first player Ohio State offered in the 2025 class.
After two years there, Peterson transferred to Huntington (West Virginia) Prep, where he played his junior season. This year, he will round out his high school career at Napa (California) Prolific Prep.
Ohio State has been a constant in his recruitment. When Jake Diebler was promoted to head coach in March, he made a point to re-offer Peterson, and the Buckeyes have remained a team the guard has consistently included among his list of top choices.
Peterson has taken multiple visits to campus, most recently taking an official visit that began August 31.
“It was one of the best visits that we’ve had,” his father, Darryl Peterson told The Dispatch after the visit. “We really enjoyed it, and of course, it’s home. Not only it being home, they really laid out the plan for Darryn. It just felt great. It was a hard act to follow. I know I say that after every visit, but this one they made us feel like home is the place to be.”
At the time of his visit, Peterson had a list of his top eight schools. Immediately afterward, Peterson cut that list to his aforementioned four finalists. He has taken official visits to all four schools after visiting Kansas State last weekend.
The Buckeyes have a commitment from four-star Richmond Heights (Ohio) guard Dorian Jones in the 2025 class.
