Sixty-four of the top boys and girls basketball teams from across the province are set to compete at Langley Events Centre over eight days as part of the 2024 Tsumura Basketball Invitational, including teams from Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Prince George, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Langley and Richmond.
Boys teams play Dec. 4 to 7, while the girls take the court from Dec. 11 to 14.
“The annual Tsumura Basketball Invitational tournaments are an absolute labour of love for me, something that both I and the dedicated tournament committee here at Langley Events Centre have been working on since the middle of this past March,” said Howard Tsumura, the tournament namesake who plays a large role in selecting the participating teams.
“As we’ve move into our second decade here at a place I like to think is at the very heart of our game provincially, the goal has continued to centre around showcasing the best of B.C. in terms of two separate 16-team brackets over each of our two weeks of play.
“To that end, we’ve got the best of best teams, and we’ve got some of the best teams that perhaps you didn’t know about.”
The Select 16 championship boys’ final is set for Dec. 7 at 3:00 p.m. while the Super 16 final follows at 4:45 p.m.
Both girls’ championship games are set for Dec. 14 with the Select 16 at 3 p.m. while the Super 16 final follows at 4:45 p.m.
