2025 NFL Draft NFL Combine Steelers News
Potential Pittsburgh Steelers first-round 2025 NFL Draft running back target Ashton Jeanty will not be participating drills at the NFL Combine this week in Indianapolis, agent Henry Organ told NFL Network on Monday.
Jeanty will participate in medical evaluations and team and media interviews this week, but will save his on-field workouts for the Boise State pro day later in the draft cycle.
That has been an increasingly common tact for players that expect to be taken high in the first round of the draft. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, a likely top five pick, is also not expected to throw this week.
While Jeanty is unquestionably one of the most talented players in the draft class, continued uncertainty about how teams will value the running back position in this year’s selection process has left a wide range of outcomes on the table for the Heisman Trophy runner-up.
Jeanty is currently the No. 9 player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. Recent mock drafts have Jeanty going anywhere between the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 6 overall and falling all the way to the Steelers at No. 21, as NFL.com guru Daniel Jeremiah predicted last week.
Listed at 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, Jeanty led all FBS rushers with 2,601 yards on 374 carries in 2024, for an eye-popping 7.0 yards per carry average. He scored 30 total touchdowns and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting to Colorado star Travis Hunter.
The Steelers will likely be moving on from Najee Harris at running back, with the four-year starter set to hit free agency. They will need a back to pair with Jaylen Warren this offseason, and Jeanty is probably the top possible option.
But this is a deep running back class, and while Jeremiah has North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton and Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson closely following Jeanty in the first round, there will be many potential starting running backs available in later rounds to pair with Warren.
