Borgonzi noted that if a trade is in the offing, he wouldn’t want to fall back too far and pass up on one of those top-end talents.

Coming off a lengthy employment in Kansas City, Borgonzi knows well the value of nailing the quarterback spot. Currently, with Will Levis the only signal-caller on the roster, the GM said the Titans’ plan could entail signing a signal-caller in free agency and drafting one.

“So you have to get that right. We have to solidify that position,” he said of the QB position. “And we have Will on the roster right now, and he’s going to compete with whoever we bring in. We have one quarterback on the roster, so we’re bringing people in. And Will will compete with them as well.”

The 3-14 Titans know there are massive holes throughout the roster. From that view, trading down to add additional draft capital makes sense. Borgonzi must balance finding a QB with filling some of those other holes.

The first-time GM said he hopes to fill some of the gaps in free agency before supplementing with the draft.

“We’re trying to fill probably as many holes as we can before the draft,” he said. “At this point, you have a free agency board, you have a draft board. You’re trying to see the depth in free agency, the depth in the draft, and where you might be able to acquire those players. You certainly want to try to fill as many holes as you can in free agency. We have some work to do on the roster.”

That work starts with the quarterback spot.
