The Tigers have claimed the top rung of the Broome Basketball Association’s A-grade men’s ladder after round five, knocking the once-dominant Kings from their perch.
Despite succumbing to the Kings in round three, the Tigers hold the top position in the competition by a thread, just one point and three percentage points ahead of the Kings.
They moved to the top after defeating the Gantheaume Pointers on Wednesday night at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre basketball courts.
The Tigers jumped to the lead in the first half but the Pointers kept the pressure on to keep the game in check, 28-21.
The Tigers wasted no time in the second half, extending their lead to 40-28 by the end of the third quarter.
The final term saw the Gantheaume Pointers start to slow down as the Tigers continued to surge on the scoreboard thanks to top-scorer Lattrell Matthews, who scored 30 points during the match, leading to a 55-36 victory.
The Kings took down the Jets 65-44 to remain in the runner-up position on the ladder.
Kings Jarman Cox was the top scorer of the match with 20 points.
