HappyCow, the go-to platform for vegan dining and travel, has revealed its Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities for 2025, just in time for its 25th anniversary. London and Berlin dominate once again, securing the top two spots for the fourth year running. London boasts over 3,600 listings, while Berlin impresses with 1,700+ fully vegan and veg-friendly establishments. Both cities set the gold standard for accessibility, diversity, and innovation in vegan dining.
Two new contenders—Mexico City and Ho Chi Minh City—made their debut on this year’s list, demonstrating remarkable growth. Ho Chi Minh City stands out with a dramatic rise in fully vegan businesses in 2024, while Mexico City shines as a growing hub for plant-based living in Latin America. Cities like Lisbon and Barcelona also showed steady progress, strengthening their vegan-friendly reputations.
HappyCow’s rankings consider metrics like vegan restaurant density, growth trends, and community engagement. This year’s list reflects a global expansion of veganism into new regions, while longstanding favorites like Los Angeles continue to excel. Despite challenges like inflation and increased competition from mainstream restaurants, demand for vegan options continues to grow worldwide.
Eric Brent, Founder of HappyCow, said, “2023-2024 were challenging years for vegan businesses, with a significant drop in vegan restaurants in many cities. This decline is partly due to increased vegan options at regular restaurants, leading to more competition. Combined with inflation, higher rents, and a reduced lunch crowd from remote work, these factors have created difficulties for vegan business owners who often operate on low margins and adhere to costly ethical standards. However, demand for vegan options and overall traffic continues to grow strongly.”
