“The Penguin” is certainly one piece of entertainment that I couldn’t pass up in 2024 and maybe you will discover it fits the bill as well.
The gritty nature of the mob program shows how to incorporate different characters and highlight its main figures without missing a beat.
Oswald Cobb aka Penguin is played by Colin Farrell. The 48-year-old steals the show with his New York accent and the makeup he’s wearing is eye-catching. Seriously, this show has to be nominated in several categories for Emmys.
Cristin Milioti is incredible as Sofia Falcone (now Gigante). She can be really stoic and scary or frantic and puzzled. She proves in one of the episodes that she can carry the weight of the show on her shoulders. Her character doesn’t accept nonsense from anyone.
Supporting characters such as Carmine Falcone, played by Mark Strong, and Salvatore Maroni, played by Clancy Brown, are other standouts in the MAX hit series.
There’s plenty of drama and stop-in-your-tracks moments in “The Penguin” and even though Oswald is a bad guy there are times where he becomes relatable with how he takes care of his mom.
There are only a couple episodes left in season one of the show, which might be depressing for most fans of the program. A new episode comes out every Sunday night, but it’s worth the wait.
Yes, “The Penguin” is set in the same universe as Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However, the show doesn’t rely on typical Batman or comic book storylines to lift the series. Whether you like superheroes and villains or not, you can enjoy “The Penguin” no matter your stance. The writing, acting and conflicts are well done and this show has to be one of the best this year.
“The Penguin” is an A+ series and each episode runs about an hour. The gangster program is rated TV-MA.
