The National Basketball League is currently gearing up for the upcoming All-Star Weekend. But amid all the fun, let’s not forget that the season is only about halfway through. And just before the upcoming weekend, the league has updated their MVP standings. The Top 10 Contenders for the Most Valuable Player on the court this season was recently updated. And, let’s just say it’s got some mixed reactions so far.
According to the latest update, the NBA MVP ladder stands as follows:
2. Nikola Jokic
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo
4. Jayson Tatum
5. Karl-Anthony Towns
6. Donovan Mitchell
7. Jaren Jackson Jr.
8. Jalen Brunson
9. Anthony Edwards
10. Alperen Sengun
Obviously, quite a few names are missing from the list, that many had expected to be there. One, of course, is LeBron James. Other names like Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama missing out on the action also does not sit right with many. While the playoffs are a couple months away still, and the ladder might not look the same at the end of the season, the current discontent is apparent.
Kia MVP Ladder is a coveted place for the players in the NBA. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the favorite to win MVP this season, but things could change at a moment’s notice. The second name on the ladder is Nikola Jokic, and the difference between the two athletes is not by much. So, it all depends on how well the Oklahoma City Thunders continue to perform; as long as they keep winning the games and Shai keeps up his high-performance rate, his being named MVP this season is a high possibility.
Fans, though, are taking to their socials to let their thoughts known about what they think about the latest update to the MVP ladder.
Looks like LeBron James missing out on the ladder action is not going well with fans. But at least most are in favor of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being the top contender this season. In the last seven games, the 26-year-old has managed to score 50 or more points thrice, which is a feat in itself. And OKC are maintaining their top spot in the Western Conference. So chances of him being named MVP are definitely high so far.
