Roksanda’s AW25 collection was a deeply personal tribute to the late Phyllida Barlow, the British artist known for her bold approach to materiality and form. Inspired by Barlow’s ability to transform discarded materials into evocative, large-scale sculptures, Roksanda infused the collection with elements of texture, movement, and artistic expression. A poignant moment arrived at the end of the presentation, where Barlow’s own voice played, taken from her final public interview before her passing. The collection itself reflected her ethos – prints were created by scanning objects like plastic waste and mirrored surfaces, then layered with bold painted strokes, reminiscent of Barlow’s use of fabrications such as cardboard and tape. A striking motif of a female nude entwined with a swan was printed onto silk dupion, merging visual art with high fashion. Texture played a leading role, with fil coupé tapestry, oversized sequins, and raffia-fringed details creating an intricate, tactile experience. Structured tailoring was softened with sheer organza panels, while sculptural garments, constructed from the negative spaces of patterns, blurred the lines between fashion and art.
