December is typically a quiet month for fashion news, as the major houses enjoy a brief reprieve before the hustle and bustle of fashion month in February and March. However, that doesn’t stop the wheel turning entirely, with plenty of brands making major announcements to cap off a whirlwind year in fashion. With November seeing the announcement of new house ambassadors and funky subsidiary collections, this month brings even more exciting news for the rest of 2024 and into the new year. From major new collaborations, to Christmas delights, here’s the best fashion news for December.
Celine has appointed Chinese actor Liu Shishi as its latest global ambassador.
Liu Shishi is best known for her role as Rouxi in the series Scarlet Hart, which earned her accolades, including the Most Popular Actress at the China TV Drama Awards.
Shishi is a professionally trained dancer. She studied at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy before making her acting debut in 2005 with The Moon and the Wind, a television drama set in the Chinese Republic featuring a ballet segment.
In a statement revealing her appointment, Liu expressed her love for the luxury French fashion house. “For me, Celine embodies the essence of Parisian sophistication and utmost femininity,” the actor said.
We were very pleased to kick off December with a new collection from Harry Style’s Please x JW Anderson. The two creatives have collaborated on a capsule collection of nail polishes and a special edition Pleasing sweater that reflects both tastemakers’ colourful approaches to fashion and beauty. JW Anderson’s range of knitwear and accessories have also been released in new signature colourways including a forest green and black iteration of Harry Styles’ favourite JW Anderson Bumper Bag. We were particularly tickled by the joyful take on the JW Anderson knit cardigan Styles sent viral when he wore it to a rehearsal of The Today Show in 2020. This edition is replete with pop art balloons that float above the shoulder.
Meanwhile, Pleasing has released a collection of four colourful metallic polishes (just in time for your holiday manicure). The collections are available to shop on the JW Anderson and Pleasing websites.
On December 1, Pandora and the British Fashion Council hosted a luncheon to announce Issa Rae as the recipient of the Pandora Leader Of Change Award. The honour is given to a person who shows a deep comittment to authentic representation, and uses their platform to positively shift perceptions. “As a fierce advocate for civil and women’s rights, Issa’s acting and writing champions equality, while she uses her platform to address such issues as the lack of diversity in the industry, calling for more representation. Her work to amplify creative voices, inspire authenticity and champion inclusivity are some of the many reasons why she has been chosen to receive this year’s award,” Pandora said in a statement.
For the event, Issa wore a white button up and feathered skirt, adorned with Pandora’s lab-grown diamond earrings.
