The regular season is nearing its end for high school basketball teams across the state of Texas, and the latest rankings are out ahead of playoff time.
San Antonio’s William J. Brennan High remains atop the list in the updated On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking, but there’s plenty of other schools gunning for the No. 1 spot as the postseason looms.
Below are the top 25 teams in the updated rankings:
The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.
The Bears have won a whopping 17 games in a row and are now 15-0 in district play after back-to-back wins over Taft and Stevens last week. The latter was a 72-point demolition where the Raiders scored just 22 points. A home game against Warren is their last regular season tilt before playoffs begin.
Allen has been dominant all season, racking up a 29-1 record and its own 15-0 mark in district play. After an early-season loss to Brennan, the Eagles have reeled off 21 straight wins with a showdown against Plano this week.
A basketball-only powerhouse out of Irving, Dynamic Prep plays a national schedule that includes some of the nation’s top prep programs. Their only losses this season have come to Allen, Brennan and Florida’s IMG Academy and Columbus High.
Much like their public school counterparts at Allen and Brennan, Shadow Creek sports a 15-0 district record and is 28-2 on the season. The Sharks’ last loss came in a 70-68 heartbreaker to Lake Ridge, but since then they have been dominant.
The DFW fixture played a tough early-season schedule against a slate of out-of-state opponents that included Utah Prep, home of No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa. Those rigorous tests have paid off though, as the Panthers sit at 11-1 in district play and 19-7 overall. They’ll close the regular season with a pair of games against Waxahachie and Skyline, two teams they dominated in blowouts last month.
One of the top teams in Texas 6A basketball, Stony Point closed out a 29-4 regular season with a win over Round Rock on Friday night. Now they’ll await their seeding when the playoff brackets come out.
The Warriors are the No. 1 team in TAPPS (Texas Associate of Private and Parochial Schools) and for good reason. A 7-0 start to district play has them sitting at 26-4 overall with two games left before the postseason.
Of the Eagles’ five losses this season, two have come at the hands of district rival Lake Ridge in the past month. Otherwise, they’ve been one of Texas’ most dominant teams. Coming off a commanding 65-49 win over Mansfield, they’ll look to end the regular season on a high note Tuesday night versus rival Crowley.
After a surprising three-game losing streak to East Central, Judson and San Marcos, the Knights responded last week with a big win over Canyon. They now sit at 27-5 and 8-3 in district play with one game to go.
While playing one of the state’s tougher schedules in 6A, Lake Ridge sits at 31-2 overall and 11-0 in district games with one left to go. That gauntlet includes a pair of wins over North Crowley, as well as one each over Shadow Creek and No. 12 Lancaster.
