The woman shared a photo of the signed top on Instagram and said: “Adrenaline rush today, my wish fulfilled! I shook hands with the ‘AI Godfather’, and he also signed my phone case and clothes. Hoping for great fortune this year!”
The incident took place at Computex 2024 trade show in Taipei on June 4, according to the Taiwan newspaper China Times.
Computex 2024, which runs from June 4 to 7, is one of Asia’s leading computer exhibitions.
It spotlights technological advancements, explores innovation and discusses future directions in information and communications technology.
Stock Talk also posted a photo of Huang signing the woman’s tight-fitting top on X, with the caption: “This image is not AI generated.”
“I bet this top could sell for US$500,000,” one online observer wrote on X.
“Huang is fulfilling a fan’s wish, I see no problem with it,” said another.
Huang’s racy autograph has also sparked a frenzy on mainland social media.
“He should have refused the woman’s request. It is somewhat disrespectful,” wrote one online observer on Douyin.
Nvidia’s response was succinct yet polite: “Thank you for reaching out, we’ll decline to comment.”
Huang is a Taiwanese-American businessman and electrical engineer.
He founded Nvidia in 1993, which has become the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer and plays a crucial role in artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Nvidia’s work on the graphics processing unit, or GPU, in 1999 sparked the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined computer graphics and ignited the era of modern AI.
As of June 5, Forbes magazine estimated Huang’s net worth to be US$102 billion.
The 61-year-old billionaire has become a superstar in Taiwan due to his outstanding contributions to the AI field and his friendly personality. Fans affectionately refer to him as “the Godfather of AI”.
In November 2022, Huang accidentally appeared in a street live-stream of two female singers in Taiwan and requested several Lady Gaga songs, with many praising his approachability.
On June 2, he delivered an inspiring keynote speech to a full house ahead of the Computex 2024 in Taiwan, explaining how the AI era is driving a new global industrial revolution.
Huang said computers are “no longer just an instrument for information storage or data processing, but a factory for generating intelligence for every industry”.
