Team USA has concluded its run at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with yet another gold medal, making it five in a row with a roster filled with some of the NBA’s biggest stars and against the most competitive field ever.
Behind the stellar play of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, the team reached the top of the podium by defeating France, 98-87, in the gold medal game at Bercy Arena.
The 12-team competition featured numerous NBA stars playing for their national teams. France (featuring Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert) settled for its second straight Olympic silver medal, while Serbia (led by Nikola Jokic) defeated Germany (Dennis Schroder, Moritz Wagner, Franz Wagner) for the bronze medal. Among the teams that crashed out in the knockout rounds included Canada (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jamal Murray) and Australia (Patty Mills, Josh Giddey).
With the group phase staged at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, France, Team USA went undefeated in Group C play — defeating Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico — and claiming the top overall spot in the 12-team field. Team USA then beat Brazil in the quarterfinals, 122-87, before defeating Serbia, 95-91, in the semifinals.
In the run-up to the Olympics, Team USA went undefeated in five exhibition matches. The squad defeated Canada in Las Vegas, and then beat Australia and Serbia in Abu Dhabi. They then won two close games in London against South Sudan and Germany.
