One of the Pittsburgh Steelers biggest roster needs this offseason is running back. Najee Harris is sure to test free agency which moves Jaylen Warren into the default No. 1 running back spot. Warren had a down year in 2024 so if Harris leaves, we expect the Steelers to be diligent in finding a replacement, whether that is in free agency or the 2025 NFL draft.
One trait we expect the Steelers to focus on when adding a running back is speed. The Steelers run game was slow and plodding last season with no threat of the big play. If the Steelers turn to the draft, one player who could give the Steelers a home run threat is Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II. So it was very encouraging when NFL draft writer Ryan Fowler noted that the Steelers are one of the teams with a formal meeting scheduled with Gordon at the NFL scouting combine.
Gordon had 537 carries in 2024. Among those carries were 75 rushes of 10+ yards and 30 rushes of 20+ yards. This is among the very best in all of college football last season.
