The airport expects the influx of travellers between December 20 and January 5, and to ensure a smooth journey for all, the airport has shared 12 top travel tips.
Anita Harrison, London Stansted’s customer operations director, said: “As we approach the Christmas school holiday period, we’re gearing up for another busy time, welcoming thousands of passengers heading off to spend the holidays with loved ones or enjoy a winter getaway.
“It is one of the most magical times of the year to travel but we’re all hands-on deck here, making sure everything’s ready for the big getaway.
“Our teams are working their festive socks off to ensure every passenger has the best experience possible as they travel through the airport this over the holidays.”
The airport’s first tip is to check public transport timetables and road conditions before setting out.
Liverpool Street will be closed from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day, so Stansted Express services will start and terminate at Tottenham Hale.
Travellers are also advised to pre-book parking to avoid any last-minute stress.
The airport suggests arriving with plenty of time to spare, usually two to four hours before the flight, and keeping an eye on any changes by checking airline updates and London Stansted’s social media.
To avoid delays at security, passengers should leave gifts unwrapped and check packing rules, particularly the 100ml liquid rule.
FastTrack is available for those who wish to skip the queues at security or passport control.
Winter layers such as coats, scarves, and hats should be removed and placed in the trays for scanning, and electronics like laptops, phones, and tablets need their own tray at security.
For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the airport recommends treating yourself to lounge access in the Escape Lounge, which offers food, drinks, and a relaxing atmosphere.
Travellers should also check the Christmas opening hours of shops and restaurants, as these may vary over the holidays.
Packing for comfort is another tip, with travel essentials like a neck pillow, blanket, or eye mask recommended for a cosy flight.
Finally, the airport encourages passengers to spread Christmas cheer, stating: “Take a deep breath and embrace the festive spirit.
“Airport staff are ready to assist and make your journey merry and bright.”
