ILLINOIS — An Illinois-based corporation is facing a lawsuit after a teenage boy died while doing the spicy “One Chip Challenge,” while another chain is selling off dozens of its Illinois locations.
Meanwhile, an Illinois inn that’s been around for nearly a century is ranked among the best hotels in the world, and a new restaurant promises to take diners on a “culinary odyssey.”
Here’s a look at some of Illinois Patch’s top business stories:
An attorney for the family said the companies created a “perfect storm” that caused the boy’s death, from producing the spicy chip and encouraging people to post videos of themselves eating it, to selling the “poisonous chip” to children. The company behind the “one chip challenge” cited its “clear and prominent labeling highlighting that the product was not for children or anyone sensitive to spicy foods or with underlying health conditions.”
“Opening went great,” Fuse’d founder Corey Knowles told Patch on Thursday. “The vibe was really good, high energy. I think people liked the smooth ambiance. It’s kind of warm in there with music and lights and fire.” The eatery opened in a recently shuttered restaurant space.
