There’s plenty to love about September: spring is in the air, silly season is just around the corner, and the fashion world is abuzz with new sesaon energy. Struggling to keep up? We’ve got you covered. Below, the biggest and best fashion news to stay on top of this September.
Sarah Burton has been revealed as the new Creative Director of Givenchy.
Burton, 50, stepped down from her previous position at the helm of Alexander McQueen in September, 2023. Until then, she had spent her entire career with the brand. Now, the British couturier is set to become the eighth designer to head up Givenchy, and only the second female to ever hold the top spot. In a serendipitous turn of events, Burton takes after her late mentor Lee McQueen, who served as Givenchy’s creative director from 11996 to 2001. During this time, Burton was hired at Alexander McQueen to support Lee as he split his time between both brands.
Announcing the appointment to WWD, Sidney Toledano, chairman of the Givenchy board, said, “Sarah Burton is an exceptional creative talent whose work I have passionately followed for many years. I am very glad that she is joining Givenchy today.”
Burton will present her first designs for Givenchy at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025.
Haider Ackermann has landed a new role as Creative Director at Tom Ford. Previously, the designer served a three-season run at Berluti and, in 2020, called a hiatus on his namesake brand. And in recent years, Ackermann guest-designed a collection for Jean Paul Gaulter and, in May 2024, was appointed Creative Director of Canada Goose.
In a statement announcing the news, Ackermann said, “It is with tremendous pride that I will seek to honour the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have long admired and have the utmost respect for.”
Tom Ford himself — who stepped down from his eponymous label in 2023 — shared similar excitement at the appointment.
“I have long been a great fan of Haider’s work. I find both his womenswear and menswear equally compelling,” Ford said in a statement. “He is an incredible colorist, his tailoring is sharp, and above all he is modern. We share many of the same historical references, and I could not be more excited to see what he does with the brand.”
Like Burton, Ackermann will debut his first collection with the Huse in March, 2025.
Genetically blessed fiancées Abby Champion and Patrick Schwarzenegger are the stars of Tommy Hilfger’s new Fall campaign. In the images, Schwarzenegger, who stars in the upcoming season of The White Lotus, and Champion, a seasoned model, show off the brand’s new season essentials, on a cosy jaunt through New York City.
“Patrick and Abby embody the next generation’s power couple,” Tommy Hilfiger said of casting the duo. “Their deep connection, mutual bond, and unwavering support for one another capture the spirit of optimism that has always fuelled our brand.”
“This campaign felt like an intimate and genuine reflection of our relationship so far,” said Patrick Schwarzenegger. “I always feel my best when Abby is by my side, and wearing Tommy’s latest collection, we felt comfortable, relaxed, and classic. It’s a timeless campaign, and we look forward to a lifetime together.”
Versace has brought K-Pop star Ningning into the fashionable fold, appointing her as the brand’s newest global ambassador. The news coincided with the release of the brand’s Kleio bag, with Ningning — a member of girl group Aespa — fittingly showing off the versatile new accessory, in both pink and black colourways. Obsessed.
