Tedley is now 2-2 over fences and he was easy to back last time out after winning at Uttoxeter on chase debut.
Jamie Brace is back on board again too but only claims 3lb having claimed 7lb last time out so effectively meets a 10lb rise for that win at Wetherby.
But he’s still very unexposed over fences in comparison to Beau Balko, trained by Paul Nicholls, who has only come third in his last three contests in small fields of five or six runners.
He has faced tougher opposition though and has never been that far away, but they do aim for a step up in trip to try and get back to winning ways.
Dreaming Blue is also on the up though with two wide margin victories in his last two chase starts.
Both were vast improvements on his previous chase starts considering he had 11 races before that where he could only reach a mark of 113, but is interesting on seasonal debut.
I can’t ignore Beau Balko’s potential with a 3lb claimer and a small 2lb drop in the weights which means he’s only 2lb higher when winning at Musselburgh.
The market should have this right and a combination exacta on the two frontrunners should pay out well enough to justify not going for the straight on either horse.
Up next at Wincanton for the tips is a great big field in a mares’ handicap hurdle.
Featuring a lot of horses that are stepping up in trip for the first time or unexposed at this kind of distance, either mostly raced at 2m or 3m.
But if I were to go for a bigger price it would be Space Voyage, who won by a neck at Perth over 2m4f ahead of Donso Star, who she was giving 19lb in weight to on soft ground.
That was her first outing since a wind op in March and looks dangerous on return for the first time this season, having plummeted in the weights at the end of last season with three below par runs, but the wind op looks likely to have fixed that.
Sabrina will be a popular punt too despite carrying top-weight her form is great, especially over course and distance winning here ahead of Irish Hill in April.
She pulled up next time out over 3m at Haydock and went for a wind op in the summer and could have a say back fresh.
Irish Hill boosted that form with a win at Plumpton just a few days ago too, also for trainer Paul Nicholls.
Both are a great price each-way and should be involved, which has a great potential for profit from backing both.
The Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase is an intriguing match-up with five runners – Handstands, Insurrection, Soul Icon, Boombawn and Glynn.
The former is the favourite and rightfully so after an incredible start to hurdling, winning three from four.
He struggled up in Grade 2 company where something may have been amiss that day at Cheltenham Festival and has been off since, prepping for a big return over fences.
Insurrection has already been seen over fences getting a run last month at Chepstow only just denied by Springwell Bay while only just finishing ahead of Boombawn.
These novice chasers now face Soul Icon who has run well over fences, but yet to win.
In fact, he’s place 2nd four times in his last four runs and continues to rise in the weights despite not getting his head in front.
This horse won eight time over hurdles but has just been narrowly denied by the likes of Sure Touch in Grade 3 company, Outlaw Peter, Persian Time and Raffle Ticket.
He gets a great chance to bounce back to winning ways and I quite like his form and experience to prevail here and surprise a few.
Three runners take on the Elite Hurdle as the Grade 2 over 1m7f with Rubaud and Brentford Hope having won over course and distance before.
£41,608 goes to the winner so it’s a surprise not more have gone for this prize, but Henry De Bromhead has sent out Aspire Tower who has solid form over fences and hurdles in some big races in Ireland.
But Brentford Hope returning for the season is hard to ignore.
He went from a mark of 122 at the start of the 2023/24 season and stepped up comfortably with each rise.
Only denied by Daddy Long Legs at Punchestown in April ahead of 22 other rivals and can now show what he’s capable of as a seven-year-old.
Over to Aintree, where there’s another great jumps card including this Novices’ Handicap Chase, where Haiti Couleurs appeals much more than the other three.
Ike Sport is the top-rated and top-weight, having placed well enough behind Resplendent Grey at Uttoxeter last month over 2m4f but faces a tough task against the seven-year-old.
Sean Bowen take the mount on the Rebecca Curtis-trained gelding who made a great chase debut last month at Chepstow placing second behind Destroytheevidence, which has worked out well too.
He’s consistent over this kind of distance and should be able to give Bowen a much needed win to balance out more victories for his large amount of rides recently.
I spoke about Sure Touch before with Soul Icon’s form and the Olly Murphy-trained horse is taking on the big Grand Sefton Handicap at Aintree.
He’s an 8/1 price at the time of writing having won four over fences from just six attempts and each of those wins have come in succession for a four-timer, now searching for a massive five.
Sure Touch was tipped to win at Market Rasen in Grade 3 company in July and he obliged at 14/1, ahead of Soul Icon, and they finished nicely ahead of 12 rivals.
He’s coped with consistent rises in the weights and I have to continue to back him especially at this price.
All odds correct at time of writing
