Former Tennessee basketball guard Santiago Vescovi has signed a contract with BAXI Manresa to begin his professional playing career in Spain’s top professional league, the organization announced on Thursday
BAXI Manresa plays in Liga ACB. It is also in the Basketball Champions League, FIBA Europe’s premier club competition. BAXI Manresa finished top-eight in the 18-team Liga ACB last season and reached the quarterfinals of Copa del Rey, an annual cup competition, for the second time in three years.
Vescovi’s deal with BAXI Manresa comes after he played with the Golden State Warriors in both the California Classic and the NBA Summer League. He averaged 3.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game. He scored 10 points in the summer league-finale.
The Montevideo, Uruguay native set program records in steals (212) and starts (128), breaking the latter mark by 16, over the course of a decorated five-year career with Tennessee. Vescovi is the only Volunteer ever to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 150 steals. He appeared in 149 games and played 4,432 minutes, both third-most in program history.
Vescovi was a two-time First Team All-SEC performer with the Vols. He ranks eighth in SEC basketball history with 325 made three-pointers, which is good for third-most by a Tennessee player. He is also fourth all-time among Volunteers in wins with 106 and made 3-pointers per game (min. 50 3PM) with 2.18, along with finishing eighth in assists (453).
The 6-foot-3, 196-pound guard concluded his playing career at No. 10 on Tennessee’s career leaderboard in assist-to-turnover ratio (min. 2.0 APG & 40 GP) with a 1.75 advantage and in three-point percentage (min. 200 3PA) with a 37.2 shooting percentage. Vescovi ranks 11th all-time in free-throw percentage (min. 300 FTA) at 79.8% and No. 13 in steals per game (1.42).
En route to placing No. 18 on Tennessee’s career scoring list with 1,540 points, Vescovi scored in double figures 81 times and reached 20-plus points on 10 occasions. He helped lead Tennessee to four NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 trips, two SEC titles and one Elite Eight berth.
