San Francisco is the most prepared city for new transportation technologies like AI, autonomous vehicles, and air taxis, according to an new urban mobility readiness index released Tuesday.
The index, created by the Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of California, Berkeley, evaluated 70 global cities on a range of factors such as walkability, air quality, EV ownership and charging infrastructure, share of pedestrians, public transit access, and cycling infrastructure. Overall, San Francisco took the top spot followed by Paris, Singapore, Munich, and Amsterdam.
The rankings changed when technology readiness was factored in. This year, the index included a new technology adoption sub index that assessed how prepared cities are for new technologies like autonomous vehicles. San Francisco, which is home to numerous autonomous vehicle companies and where Waymo operates a commercial robotaxi service, took the top spot. Los Angeles, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul rounded out the top five tech-ready cities index.
