Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, and Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, are the Top Jobs in December
MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in December 2024, there were 68,534 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly decrease of 6.2%.
The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 11,388 ads placed for those occupations in December.
The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.
In December 2024, there were 27,972 total job ads with salaries, including 8,280 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 7,331 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-49,000 range; 4,619 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range, and 7,742 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.
The top two employers posting the most online ads in December 2024 were Huntsville Hospital with 1,053 ads and UAB Medicine with 786 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: Taco Bell (731), Walmart (718), USA Health (508), Baptist Health (492), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (423) Jack’s Family Restaurants (419), Circle K (409), and Walgreens with 378 ads.
This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus is Registered Nurses. Those employed in this occupation assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. They may also administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients and advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need an Associate’s degree. This occupation also requires a license from the Alabama Board of Nursing. The advertised median salary for Registered Nurses in Alabama is $74,112. This occupation has 3,225 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
