Wiggins was surprised he didn’t go earlier too, and his coach, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, was texting DeCosta during the first round, telling him he should pick Wiggins.
The Ravens had previously told Wiggins that if he was there at No. 30, they would take him.
“It was a lot of emotions, just thinking I was going to go earlier and then falling to 30,” Wiggins said. “But I’m happy to be here, man. I’m happy to be in Baltimore. I couldn’t be happier.”
Wiggins was a first-team All-ACC player his junior season, making 25 tackles, two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, and one sack. According to Pro Football Focus, he surrendered just 18 receptions on 41 targets last season for just 176 yards.
Asked to name one game last season when he really shined, Wiggins rattled off several.
“[It’s] just my speed and my instincts and my physicality. Just being on that island, it’s man-to-man,” Wiggins said. “I feel like I’m the best man-to-man corner. I’m the best corner in the draft. The tape speaks for itself.”
