When three scholarship quarterbacks transfer out of a program, that means plenty are going to have to come in. Vanderbilt added Utah transfer Nate Johnson in December, right around the time that the Commodores hired New Mexico State’s Tim Beck as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Then Beck and consultant Jerry Kill, formerly the head coach at NMSU, successfully brought Diego Pavia with them from Las Cruces, N.M., to West End as a preferred walk-on.
The quarterback competition will kick off later this month when fall camp gets started. Pavia and Johnson will battle returning redshirt sophomore Drew Dickey with another NMSU transfer, redshirt freshman Blaze Berlowitz, on the fringes.
