Holstein was extremely efficient in Thursday’s lopsided victory over Syracuse, completing 11-of-15 pass attempts for 108 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 20 yards on the ground in a 41-13 blowout. The Panthers are off to a 7-0 start and checked in at No. 18 in the latest AP poll, and a huge matchup against No. 22 SMU will kick off the November slate.
9. John Mateer, Washington State (Previous Rank: 11)
Stats: 148-of-242, 2,153 yards, 18 TD, 6 INT; 575 rush yards, 10 TD
After a loss to Boise State and a shaky performance against Fresno State, Mateer has put together back-to-back impressive games against Hawaii (295 passing yards, 34 rushing yards, 5 total TD) and San Diego State (257 passing yards, 42 rushing yards, 4 total TD). The redshirt sophomore has 2,728 total yards, which ranks fourth among all FBS players and is a big reason for Washington State’s 7-1 start.
8. Jalen Milroe, Alabama (Previous Rank: 6)
Stats: 137-of-203, 1,937 yards, 13 TD, 6 INT; 380 rush yards, 12 TD
After throwing two interceptions in back-to-back games against South Carolina and Tennessee, Milroe had another quiet afternoon on Saturday against Missouri, completing 16-of-26 passes for 215 yards with zero touchdowns and zero picks. He did record his 12th rushing touchdown of the season, and the Crimson Tide cruised to a 34-0 victory.
7. Chandler Morris, North Texas (Previous Rank: 16)
Stats: 224-of-351, 2,873 yards, 26 TD, 8 INT; 160 rush yards, 4 TD
Morris leads all FBS quarterbacks in passing yards (2,873), passing touchdowns (26), total yards (3,033) and total touchdowns (30), and he put up his third 400-yard passing performance in his last four games on Saturday in a 45-37 loss to Tulane. The TCU transfer has 1,974 yards with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions in his last five games, and he has been steadily climbing the rankings.
6. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss (Previous Rank: 7)
Stats: 173-of-245, 2,695 yards, 15 TD, 3 INT; 207 rush yards, 3 TD
Dart had his best game in several weeks on Saturday against Oklahoma, completing 22-of-30 pass attempts for 311 yards and a touchdown in a 26-14 victory. The Rebels’ signal-caller has made marked strides in his completion percentage (65.1 to 70.6 percent) and yards per attempt (9.4 to 11.0) relative to the 2023 season, and a road game against Arkansas is up next on the schedule.
