The Pittsburgh Steelers have had quite a busy offseason.
Having brought in two new high-profile quarterbacks in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, there isn’t a team in the NFL that has the potential for a bigger revamp on offense than the Steelers heading into 2024.
In addition to their new looks at quarterback, the Steelers also upgraded across the offensive line, spending high draft picks on LT Troy Fautanu, LG Mason McCormick, and C Zach Frazier. Should the new line come together as Pittsburgh hopes it will, the dynamic rushing attack of backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren could see a huge jump in production.
With all the new additions, most of them made at bargain prices or through the draft, the Steelers have earned high marks from analysts across the board on their offseason.
According to Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News, Pittsburgh’s offseason ranked at the top of the NFL, with the Steelers being one of five teams to receive an “A” grade on the offseason, and the No. 1 rank overall.
Here’s what Iyer had to say about the Steelers’ offseason.
The Steelers had a strong 2023 offseason, too, under GM Omar Khan and made the playoffs despite having no viable QB play from Kenny Pickett and others. Now they get the short- and long-term value of Wilson and Fields without spending while also overhauling their offensive line. Wilson and Jefferson will help George Pickens now in Arthur Smith’s scheme, while Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are set up to be more productive from the backfield. Queen and Wilson give Pittsburgh more playmaking and Jackson can thrive in their secondary as worthy return for Diontae Johnson.
Four other teams—the Lions, Commanders, Vikings, and Bengals—received an “A” grade, but none of them ranked higher than the Steelers.
Outside of their revamped roster, the Steelers also pulled off one of the biggest business moves of the offseason, with Pittsburgh being named as the host of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Steelers 2024 campaign kicks off on September 8 in Atlanta with a matchup against the Falcons.
