Pat Surtain II is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
Some would correctly argue he’s the best cornerback in football.
So it was natural for CBS Sports to include the Denver Broncos cornerback on its list of the top 25 players under 25. Surtain is one of two cornerbacks to make that list.
Surtain is ranked No. 13, while Sauce Gardner is ranked No. 5. I’m sorry, but Gardner is not better than Surtain, proving yet again these things are subjective.
Here’s what CBS Sports said about its criteria:
Why the age-25 cutoff? Generally speaking, most top players enter the NFL at ages 20-21. That means this list essentially doubles as a ranking of the top players still on their rookie deals, and/or deserving of new contracts.
Also included:
What goes into the ranking? Past performance, future projection and, to a lesser degree, positional value. At the end of the day, it’s a hodgepodge of where guys stand right now and where we think they’re headed.
The near last decade of football in Denver has been brutal.
Surtain is one of the bright spots in an otherwise dark period in the franchise’s history.
Hopefully, with a rookie quarterback in the mix and an organization that seems on the same page at every level, success is on the horizon.
