Brockton High School has named alumni Jailson Silva as the program’s next head football coach. The announcement became official Tuesday in a statement posted to Brockton Public Schools’ website. Brockton waited nearly eight months, and just over two weeks before tryouts begin on Aug. 16, to officially name a new head coach after former New England Patriots tight end and WEEI radio host Jermaine Wiggins resigned from the position in December after one season.

For the first time in program history, Bridgewater American’s 12u Little League team can call itself state champions. Bridgewater outlasted Acton-Boxboro, 3-1, at Deyermond Park to earn the right to represent Massachusetts in the New England Regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut. State champ has a nice ring to it, but after recording the final out, the players started realizing they’re about to experience something else that is pretty cool, too. “We’re going to be on ESPN,” Bryson Buker exclaimed with a big smile.

Police say they arrested a man wanted for a recent Brockton murder as he tried to flee the country at Logan Airport. Te Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office says State Police detectives assigned to their office arrested Marcus Miranda, 20, and charged him with murder and other gun offenses on Monday evening. Marcus was wanted in the fatal shooting of Romualdy Pierre-Charles, 22, of Brockton, at his home at 27 Vesey St. on July 24, the DA’s office said.
