The high school basketball season is about ready to get underway across the country, and On3 has released the latest national rankings.
Below are the top 25 high school basketball programs, according to the recently released On3 Composite.
The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.
Grayson basketball will be home to one of the nation’s best juniors this season in Five-Star Plus+ shooting guard Caleb Holt. Holt transferred in this offseason from Buckhorn, where he averaged 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He’ll be joined down low by top-50 Georgia small forward signee Jacob Wilkins. Last season, Grayson finished with a 30-2 record and a 7A Georgia state championship win over McEachern.
The two-time defending CIF Open Division state champions reside in Studio City. Across the last three seasons, Harvard Westlake is 91-10. Last season saw the Wolverines go 33-3 en route to another state title. Led by elite four-star small forward Nikolas Khamenia (Duke) and junior shooting guard Joe Sterling, Westlake’s defensive rating sits at No. 1 in the state, per the Massey Ratings.
Several ranked prospects litter Paul VI Catholic’s roster this season, including one of the top recruits in the 2026 class. Five-star shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. averaged 11.5 points per game last season for the Panthers. He’s joined by top-150 junior point guard Anthony Brown, Utah State signee Adlan Elamin and top-50 sophomore guard Troy Tomlin. The Panthers were 35-3 in the 2023-24 season with a VISAA Division I championship win over St. Anne’s-Battlefield.
Five-Star Plus+ power forward Koa Peat is the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2025 class and the top-ranked recruit in Arizona. He was the Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year last season, averaging a double-double per game. Sophomore small forward Bruce Branch is also a top-30 recruit in the 2027 class. The Pumas were 24-6 a year ago with a notable one-point win over Grayson (Ga.). Perry was the AIA Open state champ.
St. John Bosco picked up its third state championship in school history last year, winning the Division I title over San Ramon Valley. The Braves won 28 games and are poised to do more of the same this upcoming season. Junior Five-Star Plus+ point guard Brandon McCoy is the top-ranked recruit in the 2026 class, while junior five-star power forward Christian Collins is No. 8.
Columbus won the Florida 7A state title last season and will have all eyes on it as twin Duke commits Cameron and Cayden Boozer look to lead it to supremacy once again. Cameron, a power forward, is the nation’s No. 2 recruit in the 2025 cycle, while Cayden, a point guard, checks in at No. 22. Some talented juniors are also on the roster in four-star small forward Caleb Gaskins, the No. 11 recruit in the 2026 class, as well as four-star small forward Jaxon Richardson, the No. 28 recruit. The Explorers will feature an explosive offense this season.
Another one of the top offenses in the state of Florida this season will reside in Orlando at Oak Ridge High. The Pioneers lost in the 7A state championship last time out. They’ll be led by four-star small forward Jamier Jones (Providence) and four-star point guard Jalen Reece (LSU). Jones is a top-40 recruit and a top-10 small forward, while Reece is a top-75 recruit and the No. 12 point guard in the cycle.
The 2023-24 season ended with a regional semifinal loss to Stony Point for Brennan, but the Bears are looking to be one of the nation’s best teams in 2024. They are led by elite Houston point guard signee Kingston Flemings, who averaged 17.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The junior class looks to be especially promising with two top-175 recruits in Isaiah Ward and Donovan Criss.
The Knights, No. 9 in the preseason national On3 Composite rankings, were a quarterfinalist in the California Division I tournament last season and finished the campaign with a 31-4 record. Junior five-star small forward Tyron Stokes is the No. 2 prospect in the 2026 class and will be a force for opposing defenses all year long.
Five-star senior combo guard Brayden Burries has yet to make his college decision and is considering several schools ahead of his final year of high school basketball. He averaged 24.8 points per game last year en route to Roosevelt’s 31-4 season. The Mustangs fell to Harvard-Westlake 63-59 in the regional finals of the CIF Open Division tournament.
