While basketball recruiting is a fluid slugfest to decide which teams come out on top, On3’s Jamie Shaw expects there to be a lot of action in the Big 12 Conference.
In a recent article predicting where each remaining uncommitted prospect in the Top 20 would commit, nine different teams from the Big 12 were listed in competing for some of the nation’s top basketball prospects.
The nine teams listed include BYU, Kansas State, Kansas, Arizona, Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, Arizona State, and Cincinnati.
BYU appeared once on the list but was perhaps the most significant recruitment in the 2025 cycle. The Cougars were listed as Shaw’s pick to land No. 1 rated A.J. Dybantsa, with a 30% confidence rating. Following them in the recruitment as the biggest threat were Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats, who were mentioned twice in Shaw’s list. The team also received a pick of their own in the 2025 cycle, with Shaw listing the Wildcats as the pick for the nation’s seventh-ranked prospect, Meleek Thomas, at 20%.
Next up, one of the most mentioned teams on the list was Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas received two official predictions for Darryn Peterson (No. 3) and Bryson Tiller (No. 16) and was listed as a threat to land Nate Ament (No. 4).
Then came the Arizona Wildcats, who were mentioned in the recruitment of three different prospects. Tommy Lloyd’s squad was listed as the prediction for Koa Peat (No. 6), Brayden Burries (No. 12), and Dwayne Aristode (No. 18).
Following Arizona came Baylor and Houston, who were both listed as the biggest threats to Arizona in the recruitment of Koa Pete. Houston was also listed as the biggest threat to one fellow Big 12 school to land Kingston Flemings (No. 17). That team was the Texas Tech Red Raiders who were listed with a 20% confidence rating to land Flemings.
The final two teams mentioned both shared the recruitment of four-star small forward Shon Abaev, as two pieces of a three-way biggest threat tie with Auburn. Arizona State and Cincinnati were the final two teams mentioned in Shaw’s prediction list for Top 20 prospects in 2025.
