Eight schools made the trip to Minot to participate in the Western Dakota Association (WDA) boys tennis opening event, the Minot Round Robin jamboree. The event had first, second and third singles as well as first and second doubles at the varsity level. The junior varsity had one batch of singles and one batch of doubles for competition.
Minot High would claim first place with 32 points while Minot North would tie with Bismarck High for sixth place with 11 points for the day. Second place would go to Mandan while Bismarck Legacy would finish in third place.
In the first singles bracket, Grayson Schaeffer claimed second place with a 6-1 record while Karter Hatzenbuhler took first place for Mandan.
In number two singles, Nolan Moore was the champion at 7-0 over the day while Reed Romsaas from Bismarck High finished at 6-1 for second place.
Oliver Thompson was top player at the number three singles with a 6-1 record. Mandan’s Donaven Birdine also had a 5-1 record, but lost his one game 6-2 compared to Thompson’s 6-4 in the tie-breaker statistical category.
At the number one doubles, Aidan Diehl and Nolan Callahan took third place for the Magicians with a 6-1 mark that was equaled by Mandan and Bismarck Legacy with tiebreakers for first and second finishing in the previous order.
Minot High would see Conor Odahlen and Thomas Griffith take first place at the number two doubles with a 7-0 record. Mandan would be second and Legacy third in this bracket.
The Magicians would also win the JV singles and JV doubles at the jamboree as well.
Bismarck Century will visit Minot High today, August 26 while Mandan will visit Minot North on Tuesday, August 27.
