Another 2-0 week elevated Michigan in the latest AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll.
The Wolverines moved up four spots to No. 20 in Monday’s rankings.
They beat Oregon at home 80-76 and won at Indiana on Saturday 70-67 to improve to 18-5 overall and 10-2 in the Big Ten. They’ve won four straight, and their last five wins have all been by four points or fewer.
“I’m so grateful that we’re at the point where we’re disappointed in margin of victory on the road at Big Ten arenas,” Michigan head coach Dusty May said on Monday. “That’s a heck of a tribute to our guys.”
Michigan is at No. 20 in the NCAA’s NET rankings.
Michigan hosts No. 7 Purdue at Crisler Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET, Peacock). The Boilermakers beat Michigan by 27 on Jan. 24.
The Michigan women, meanwhile, remained outside of the Top 25 despite a pair of impressive road wins. They won at Nebraska on Thursday 78-60. Greta Kampschroeder made five 3s and led Michigan with 16 points as Michigan held Nebraska to 37 percent shooting.
On Sunday afternoon, Michigan beat then-No. 20 Michigan State 71-61. Michigan had lost at home to the Spartans by 30 two weeks prior but got revenge to earn a split in the rivalry. Syla Swords led the Wolverines with 19 points. Michigan State shot just 32 percent.
It was surprising that Michigan, which was one spot outside the rankings last week, received just seven points in Monday’s poll and fell to No. 31. The Wolverines (17-7, 8-5), who have won three straight, host Indiana on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET, B1G+) in their only game before next week’s poll.
