Natick backup goalie Evan Hyman is an accomplished choir singer. He performs the national anthem before most home games at Chase arena.
The MetroWest Daily News recently was honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors in its annual contest for top sports journalism from 2024.
Kyle Grabowski, who covers sports for the Daily News, placed in the top 10 for short feature in the D division for his piece on Natick High hockey goaltender and singer Evan Hyman.
“When he hits it perfectly, he comes off like he just scored a goal,” Natick boys hockey coach Karl Infanger said at the time.
Hyman and the Redhawks reached the Division 1 Round of 16 this winter, closing the season at 12-6-5.
Writing and photography categories are ranked from 1 to 10 by a panel of national judges, and the individual winners are announced in late March and early April. Individual category winners are invited to receive their award at APSE’s national summer convention, scheduled for June 26-28 in Minneapolis.
