NBA tip-off is getting closer.
And part of that annual ritual is the release of this year’s edition of NBA 2K. The leading basketball video game’s 2025 copy drops in just over a week.
With the release comes all the consternation about player ratings, as fans (and sometimes even the players themselves) often get up-in-arms over which players are rated too high or too low.
In the 2K25 edition, though, fans of the Dallas Mavericks might not have much to complain about.
2K25 recently released its top 100 players by overall rating, and Mavs star Luka Doncic, following his first trip to the NBA Finals, is ranked by 2K as the second-best player in all of the NBA. Not only that, but Doncic is tied at 97 overall with the top player — Denver’s Nikola Jokic. Jokic is mere percentage points ahead of Doncic. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antentekounpo is also rated at 97 overall, though he’s mere percentage points below Doncic.
Doncic’s initial rating is up two points from the 2024 edition where he was rated 95 overall.
Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid round out the top five, each ranked at 96 overall.
It’s not just Doncic with the impressive rating though, as the Mavericks have four other players ranked in the top 100. Only one of them had played a game in a Mavs uniform at this time last year.
We already knew that Kyrie Irving was high up on the list as his 99-rated ball-handling stat is tops in the league. He comes in at 92 overall, just outside of the league’s top 15 players.
Klay Thompson comes in at 81 overall in his first season as a Maverick. As do Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II as they enter their second seasons with Dallas.
See the full top-100 here. NBA 2K25 will be available Sept. 6 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
