In the historic first Western Dakota Association (WDA) dual between cross town opponents, Minot North hosted Minot High and lost in straight sets as the Magicians beat the Sentinels 9-0 at Hammond Park on Thursday, September 19.
Minot High was represented by Grayson Schaeffer at the number one singles. Minot North had Parker Vigestad. Schaeffer took the 6-3, 6-1 win for Minot High. At the number two singles, the size difference between the two players was significant. Minot High senior Aidan Diehl faced Minot North eighth grader Colton Griffith and the first frame was 6-0 for the senior. The second frame was much closer with the 7-5 score for Minot High.
Nolan Moore represented Minot High at the number three singles and faced Minot North’s Brayden Callahan. Moore posted the 6-1, 6-3 win. At the number four singles, Thomas Griffith from Minot High beat Peyton Opp from Minot North 6-2, 6-1 to make the Magicians lead 4-0 at that point.
Oliver Thompson from Minot High faced Lucas Griffith from Minot North at the number five singles and won 6-1, 6-1 for the Magicians. Conor Odahlen from Minot High faced Reece Blikre from Minot North at the number six singles and won 6-0, 6-0 to complete the sweep for the 6-0 lead.
At the number one doubles, Schaeffer and Diehl from Minot High beat Vigestad and B. Callahan from Minot North 6-1, 6-0 to start the doubles matches 1-0 for the Magicians. From Minot High, T. Griffith and Thompson beat C. Griffith and Opp from Minot North 6-0, 6-0 for the 2-0 lead at doubles.
In the final varsity match of the day, Odahlen and Moore from Minot High faced L Griffith and Blikre from Minot North at the number three doubles. The Magicians won 6-0, 6-0 for the sweep at doubles and the 9-0 overall score.
Minot High is at Mandan today and will host Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday, September 24. Jamestown will be at Minot North on Thursday, September 26, for the next WDA action.
