Each and every day of the racing year, we bring you a bumper NAPS Table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
His winning sequence ended 12 days ago, but that was another good run from LAUDABLE, whose soft-ground win the time before, also gives plenty of encouragement. Susiesparkle clicked straightaway for her new connections with two runs and nearly two wins last week, so perhaps her three performances on heavy ground in Ireland last autumn (all defeats by at least 30l) will be consigned to history.
However, proven ability in the mud means that Dandy’s Angel (who ran just three days ago) is feared more.
A drop in trip on rain-softened ground could be the answer for JUNOT, who hasn’t been at his best since a Wexford win in May, but a slower surface should suit this time. Smallcraftwarning is another that may benefit from dropping in trip, and the in-form Kate Ill Know warrants respect if she gets a run. Wednesday’s runner-up Impero is worth a look if turned out again quickly.
Emmet Mullins’ BACKMERSACKME was an unplaced odds-on favourite when qualifying for this series final and is tricky to weigh up at present but he was quite impressive in a Cork bumper in April and just about held his own in a Grade 1 novice hurdle one month later. His Irish stable’s prowess when valuable prizes are up for grabs is well known, and he needs to be taken very seriously.
His compatriot Fine Margin has won his last three and is second choice, while Mostly Sunny, Bob Bob Ricard and Jacobs Acre are the most appealing of the British-trained runners.
With further progress on the cards, ARCHIVIST is preferred. Seaplane and Frankini are the other main form contenders and their rematch could go either way, while Dragonflame looks likely to take a step forward. Some of the newcomers are interesting, most notably Secret Theory who is second choice behind the selection.
