Al Jazeera will bring you live updates from Manchester City vs Southampton on October 26 followed by Arsenal vs Liverpool on October 27.
In the meantime, you can follow all the latest sports news here.
“I think probably we deserved something more, but the performance was good,” Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told Sky Sports.
“I think we controlled most of the game. We had chances and possession, and possession in their half. It doesn’t happen often that you see Liverpool in their own half for a long time … this is the reason I said we don’t like to drop points.
“But if we have to lose, this is the way. We were brave on and off the ball, and I think this is the right way.
“As I said before the game, I don’t think today’s game will decide where we are … overall, I am proud of the players.”
Jones, who scored the winning goal for Liverpool, was named the player of the match.
Asked about how it felt to overcome their biggest test so far, Jones told Premier League Productions: “It feels great. I played well, I was involved a lot. But the most important thing is that we came away with three points.
Speaking about his goal, Jones added: “Was it a good touch? I don’t even remember actually! I just came inside and knew Mo [Salah] will always play a ball there. I made a run … and at first I thought I would go with one touch, but it was a good first touch as you could see. I am happy that I scored.”
Sunday’s match against Chelsea had been touted as Liverpool’s first serious test of their title credentials.
Before today, the Merseyside club had not faced a top-six side in the league this season.
It was never comfortable for Liverpool against a Chelsea side who had more goal attempts, but they passed their biggest test of the Premier League season so far.
The Reds have won 10 of their 11 matches across all competitions this season; their most victories after that many matches in a campaign since 1990/91, under Kenny Dalglish (also 10).
Premier League leaders Liverpool move to 21 points, a one-point lead over second-placed City.
The Merseyside club have won seven league matches and lost only once this season. City, on the other hand, have won six and drawn two.
The home win over Chelsea will boost Liverpool’s confidence ahead of a tricky run of fixtures, beginning with a trip to Arsenal next weekend.
Liverpool return to the top of the Premier League points table with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield.
It’s their seventh win in eight league matches this season, as they continue their push for the title under new manager Arne Slot.
Salah put them 1-0 up in the first half with a penalty after Colwill fouled Jones inside the area. The Reds thought they had another penalty before the break, but VAR reversed the referee’s decision.
Chelsea made a quick start in the second half, finding the equaliser through Jackson in the 47th minute. But Jones put the hosts back in front within four minutes.
Chelsea had more possession and attempts, but they couldn’t get the better of Liverpool.
It’s the final minute of stoppage time and it’s Liverpool who are surging forward. But Nunez gives away a free kick to Chelsea, and both he and manager Slot are furious with the call.
Boos ring around Anfield.
However, nothing comes out of the free kick, and that’s the end of the game!
