It’s awards season in the NFL and the Lions are starting out well.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes was named the 2024 NFL Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Writers Association, the organization announced on Thursday.
This marks the second straight year that Holmes has won the award.
Former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was also named the association’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Dan Campbell lost out on Coach of the Year honors to Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell.
Holmes earned top honors for assembling a roster that went 15-2 in the regular season, marking the most wins in franchise history. That roster was stacked with his draft picks, including three players who earned first-team AP All-Pro honors this season: Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kerby Joseph.
Holmes also helped add a series of players to the Lions’ roster to help overcome a slew of injured defensive players and help the team still finish atop the NFC for the first time in franchise history.
Campbell is also a finalist for Coach of the Year honors from the Associated Press.
Holmes is the first Lions executive to win the honor in its three-decade existence. Johnson, who took the head coaching job with the Chicago Bears this week, is the first Lions assistant to win assistant coach of the year honors.
