The general consensus around the NFL entering Week 14 is that the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs are the two best teams in the league currently. After all, they sport the best record in the NFL, with both teams sitting at 11-1.
If we’re splitting hairs, one can certainly make the argument that the Lions are better. Detroit has been winning in a much more impressive fashion than the Chiefs throughout the course of the season.
While the Chiefs and Lions are the consensus choices for the best teams in the NFL, no matter how you want to order them, one NFL analyst is not subscribing to that idea.
On ESPN’s “Get Up” on Monday, host Mike Greenberg actually picked the Philadelphia Eagles as the league’s best team.
“I waited too long to buy into the Eagles,” Greenberg said. “I was their last doubter. I kept looking at who they were beating, and how spectacular they weren’t, and had questions about the coach … I am dead wrong, and they’re just flat-out great.
“I’m watching every team play in the league right now, including the Lions on Thanksgiving: The Eagles are the best team in the NFL.”
While the Eagles certainly aren’t a popular pick for the best team in the NFL, it isn’t exactly outlandish to crown them that. Philly is sitting one game back of the Lions and Chiefs at 10-2 and are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak.
However, that isn’t enough to put the Eagles over a Lions team that was 30 minutes from a Super Bowl last season and is now in the midst of a 10-game winning streak.
The Chiefs also deserve a higher spot in the pecking order of the league’s elite teams, although we don’t believe they’re better than Detroit.
None of this is to say the Eagles aren’t a really good team, because they are. But we just think the Lions and Chiefs are better right now.
