Uncle Mo, a leading stallion and 2-year-old champion of 2010, was euthanized Thursday after surgery to treat a left foreleg injury. He was 16.
Owner Mike Repole posted news of his death on X.
I am devastated and saddened to share with you that Uncle Mo was euthanized earlier today following a left foreleg injury.
He had surgery yesterday. Unfortunately, this morning the recovery process was too much for him to endure.

Uncle Mo was sired by Indian Charlie and purchased by Repole for $220,000 as a yearling. Trained by Todd Pletcher, he was 3-for-3 as a 2-year-old, winning the Grade 1 Champagne and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to earn the Eclipse Award.
His 3-year-old season was interrupted when he was found to have elevated levels of an enzyme that caused a liver disease. The levels were found to be elevated again in late 2011, after he finished 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and he was retired. He had a career record of 8: 5-1-1 and earnings of $1.6 million.
Uncle Mo sired more than 100 stakes winners, according to Coolmore, where he stood at stud. The long list of standouts includes Nyquist, Adare Manor, Golden Pal and Mo Donegal.
