Kerala is emerging as a top spot in sustainable travel. Experts at the 12th edition of the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) highlighted some of the emerging trends in the global tourism market as they emphasized that consumers are increasingly prioritizing environmentally sustainable practices and immersive travel experiences. These trends hint towards a shift in traveler preferences towards more responsible tourism. Another key observation was the growing focus on self-care as travelers now are willing to invest in wellness-focused experiences.
Dipak Deva, Managing Director of SITA, highlighted the growing impact of sustainable travel on tourist decisions. He explained how the demand for eco-friendly travel products will massively shape the future of the industry. He also pointed out that spending on self-care within the tourism sector is expected to see a substantial rise.
Kerala is known to be one of India’s best tourism destinations. From beautiful beaches to stunning mountains, Kerala has it all. There are also many off-beat places that you can visit.
Imagine yourself trekking to a cliff with a breathtaking view of the Western Ghats and exploring a cave with carvings that are almost 8,000 years old! Well, that’s exactly what you can do at one of Kerala’s unique places – Edakkal Caves in Wayanad. These caves, more like a rock shelter, are similar to the Bhimbetka shelters in Madhya Pradesh and showcase the only Stone Age carvings in South India, dating back to 6,000 B.C.
Gavi is like a true paradise tucked away in the lush greenery of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, surrounding the beautiful Gavi Lake. The calm lake waters reflect the rich green colors of the dense forest. With over 260 types of birds and lots of wildlife, Gavi is a perfect spot for nature lovers. Here, you might see bisons, elephants, lion-tailed macaques, and Malabar Giant Squirrels.
If you’re looking for calm hill stations away from the noise, Vagamon is a perfect hidden treasure in Kerala just for you! Located in Idukki, it’s sometimes called the ‘Scotland of Asia.’ This nickname points to the vast meadows on the mountaintops, great for the growing activity of paragliding in Vagamon.
