England’s Harry Brook celebrated a personal milestone during the ongoing Multan Test against Pakistan, scoring a phenomenal triple century.
His career-best knock of 317 runs not only helped England post a mammoth total of 823/7 declared, but it also carried a special significance. For Brook, his historic achievement was a fulfillment of a family goal – surpassing his father’s best cricket score.

Reflecting on his performance, Brook candidly shared that he had always aimed to go past his father David’s top score of 210, which he achieved in a club match for Burnley back in 2001.
“I just wanted to get past my dad’s high score of 210,” Brook mentioned in the post-match interview.
With his 317 in Multan, the young batter not only set a new personal record but made his father proud, finally checking off a goal he’s had since he began his cricket journey. “I said that to you guys before, I was pretty happy when I got past his score, to be honest,” he added, smiling.
Brook’s triple century, combined with Joe Root’s double century (262), propelled England to their fourth-highest total in Test cricket history. Their massive score of 823-7 also became England’s third-highest total in the longest format, putting them in complete control of the game.

With a substantial lead of 267 runs over Pakistan in the first innings, England left the hosts struggling, and they eventually reduced Pakistan to 152-6 by the end of Day 4.
Brook and Root’s 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket turned out to be record-breaking as well. It eclipsed England’s previous best fourth-wicket stand of 411 runs, which was set by Peter May and Colin Cowdrey against the West Indies in Birmingham back in 1957.
During his record-breaking innings, Brook cherished batting alongside Joe Root, the former England captain. “It was wonderful batting with Rooty,” Brook shared.

Brook acknowledged Root’s ability to make the game look easy, “We spoke about the game moving forward and going out there after lunch to try and put the foot down and get a decent lead.”
“It makes you feel so comfortable when you’re watching him at the other end, he makes the game look so easy, and he’s playing the ball so late and making the balls look slow,” he added.
