JOHNSTOWN — Thursday’s non-league boys’ basketball contest between Johnstown and Coxsackie-Athens was a bit closer than the final score reflected.
A defensive battle most of the way, with the Sir Bills maintaining a slim lead, Johnstown exploded in the fourth quarter in what proved to be a 51-32 victory.
The two teams were deadlocked at 10-10 after the first quarter, but Johnstown’s defense was able to limit the Riverhawks to just three points in the second quarter and seven in the third.
Johnstown junior Danny Brown led the way in the fourth quarter, scoring eight of his game-high 18 points in the period. He hit a pair of 3-pointers down the final stretch.
Dylan Hulbert tallied most of his points in the third quarter, scoring seven of his 12 points in the period.
Marley Bramer hit a trio of 3-pointers for nine points in the game, hitting two shots from behind the arc in the fourth quarter.
Coxsackie-Athens was led by 14 points from Chance Harris and 10 from Cody DeRose.
With the win, Johnstown has now won 11 straight games, and is 11-4 overall this season. Coxsackie-Athens falls to 5-9 overall this season with the loss.
