Trained by Alec Laird and expertly guided by jockey Chase Maujean, Greeting My Master has now solidified his growing reputation with three wins and five places from 13 starts, amassing stakes of R332,650 for owners Messrs J F & L M F Wernars & Mrs L C A Bouwer. Bred by Syrilla Stud, he proved to be the class act on the day.
Hot on his heels was Main Defender, who fought hard to finish a close second. This talented four-year-old gelding by Pathfork out of Alessia has an impressive career with seven wins from 12 starts.
Trained by Tony Peter and ridden by top jockey Gavin Lerena, Main Defender entered the race with a high merit rating of 129 and is also entered for the upcoming Summer Cup in the Grade 1 class, marking him as a serious contender for Johannesburg’s premier event.
Defending champion Atticus Finch, a five-year-old gelding by Master Of My Fate out of Alexia gave a strong defence to secure third place. Trained by Alec Laird and piloted by Calvin Habib, Atticus Finch boasts a solid career with five wins and six places from 16 starts. Bred by Varsfontein Stud, he demonstrated his fighting spirit and consistency.
The race day at Turffontein was moved to November 11 after an early morning downpour on November 9.
