New Delhi: India will go into the T20 World Cup as the No.1 side, as per the latest ICC rankings. The mega tournament begins from June 1 and will be co-hosted by USA and the Caribbean islands.
India, champions of the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in 2007, currently have 264 rating points, ahead of 2021 champions Australia (257 points) while defending champions England are third with 254 points.
Two-time champions West Indies are fourth on two points behind England at 252.
They are ahead of New Zealand (250) while South Africa and Pakistan are both on 244 points.
South Africa are sixth just above Pakistan as they are ahead on decimal points.
The players of T20 World Cup co-hosts West Indies have gained in rankings after they whitewashed South Africa 3-0 in a T20 series.
Their opener Brandon King jumped up five spots to eighth after topping the series aggregate with 159 runs. Johnson Charles after hitting 69 off 26 balls to become the Third T20Is player of the match in rose 17 places to 20th.
Kyle Mayers gained 12 spot to be at 31st position runs while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie leaped 84 places to 27th after claiming eight wickets in the series.
After the recent England’s T20I series against Pakistan, their skipper Jos Buttler is up to seventh, Jonny Bairstow has moved up eight places to 36th while Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has advanced six slots to 51st.
In the rankings for bowlers, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi is up three spots to 11th while Imad Wasim soared 14 slots to 38th.
USA batter Steven Taylor progressed 28 places to 109 while Bangladesh bowler Rishad Hussain moved up 38 spots to 52nd.
