Mr Brightside has surged home late to win this year’s VRC Champions Mile.
The champion seven-year-old was given a peach of a ride by jockey Craig Williams, hitting the line in a dramatic finish to the $3 million race at Flemington.
It was absolute jubilation in the mounting yard as connections celebrated the latest Group 1 victory for the Hayes family-trained gelding.

“Mr B has no BS in him. He did all the running today – thanks buddy,” Williams said on Nine after the race.
“His target was the grand final – the Cox Plate. He ran fourth and phenomenally.
“Today they’ve come here today with the target of winning the Champions Mile with all these top horses.”
The win for Mr Brightside marks the superstar’s eighth at Group 1 level, continuing to cement itself as one of the best milers in recent memory.

Fans at the track began to belt out the famous track by The Killers in the moments after the race as Flemington came unstuck for the ever-popular horse.
Antino finished in second place, while Fangirl flew down the outside for third.
Stefi Magnetica, who was extremely unlucky last weekend in Sydney, ran fourth.
